Independent and Dependent Events

This topic covers the probability of independent as well as dependent events. A Dependent event is one whose probability depends on that of a former event.

Topic: Probability of Independent and Dependent Events

  • For independent events, the occurrence of one event has no effect on the probability that the second event will occur

  • Probability of Two Independent Events: P(A and B) = P(A) · P(B)

  • For dependent events, the occurrence of one event has an effect on the probability that the second event will occur.

  • Probability of Two Dependent Events: P(A and B) = P(A) · P(B after A)
