Volume of Pyramids and Cones

This topic covers the volumes of pyramids and cones.

Topic: Volume of Cones and Spheres

  • Volume of a sphere = 4/3 πr3, where π = 22/7 or 3.14, r = radius of the sphere

  • Volume of a hemi-sphere = 1/2 x volume of sphere = 1/2 x 4/3 πr3

  • Volume of a cone = 1/3 Bh, where B = area of the base, h = height of the cone

  • Area of the base = πr2, where π = 22/7 or 3.14, r = radius

  • If the a cone and a cylinder have the same base area and same height, volume of the cone = 1/3 x volume of the cylinder

Topic: Volume of Pyramids

  • The volume V of a rectangular pyramid is one third the area of its base B times its height h, where base is a rectangle

  • Volume (V) = 1/3 x Bh

  • Area of the rectangular base = length x width

  • If the a prism and a pyramid have the same base area and same height, volume of the pyramid = 1/3 x volume of the prism
