Perimeter and Circumference

This topic covers the concept of perimeter and circumference.

Topic: Perimeter of Polygons

  • The perimeter of a figure is the distance around the figure. The perimeter of any polygon is the sum of all the side lengths

  • Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 x Length + 2 x Width

  • Perimeter of equilateral triangle = 3 x s, where 's' is the side of the triangle

Topic: Missing Sides

  • The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of all its sides

  • The length of the missing side of the polygon is the perimeter of the polygon minus the sum of the rest of the sides

  • The perimeter of a rectangle = 2 x Length + 2 x Width

Topic: Word Problems

  • The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of its sides

  • The perimeter of a rectangle is 2 x Length + 2 x Width

  • The perimeter of a square is 4 x S, where ‘S’ is the length of the side of the square

Topic: Circumference of a Circle

  • The length of the diameter is twice the length of the radius. Or, d = 2 x r

  • The circumference of any circle is equal to ∏ times the diameter.
    The formula for the circumference of a circle is C = ∏d

  • Replacing the value of d = 2 x r in the formula for circumference, we get:
    C = 2∏r
