Angle Pairs and their Relationships

This topic covers the various angle pairs and their relationships. In this topic, we learn what are complementary angles, supplementary angles, adjacent angles, congruent angles, corresponding angles, linear pairs, and vertical angles.

Topic: Complementary and Supplementary Angles

  • A right angle measures 90°. A straight angle measures 180°

  • Complementary angles are two angles whose measures total 90°

  • Supplementary angles are two angles whose measures total 180°

Topic: Congruent Angles, Adjacent Angles and Linear Pairs

  • When angles have the same measure, they are said to be congruent

  • Adjacent angles are side by side and have a common vertex and ray

  • A linear pair of angles is a pair of adjacent angles whose measures total 180°

Topic: Vertical and Corresponding Angles

  • Vertical angles are two nonadjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines

  • When a line intersects a pair of parallel lines, corresponding angles are formed. They are in the same relative positions

  • Vertical and corresponding angles are congruent. They have the same measure
