Divide by 2-Digit Numbers

In this topic, we learn to divide by two digit numbers and divide money and cents.

Topic: Divide by Multiples of 10

  • The number being divided is called the dividend, the number by which it is being divided is called the divisor and the result of the division is called the quotient

  • A number remaining after division is called the remainder

  • To divide 94 ÷ 30, we place the first digit of the quotient in the ones place

  • Divide the digits in the ones place; 94 ÷ 30 = 3 R4

Topic: Divide by 2-Digit Numbers

  • Place the first digit of the quotient

  • Bring down the digits of the divisor, one by one, and divide

  • To divide 184 ÷ 13, we place the first digit of the quotient in the tens place

  • Divide the digits in tens place; 18 ÷ 13 = 1 R5

  • Bring down the ones place and divide; 54 ÷ 13 = 4 R2

Topic: Divide Dollars and Cents by 2-Digit Numbers

  • For dividing dollars and cents, divide the number in the same way you divide whole numbers

  • Place the dollar sign and the decimal point where they belong in the quotient
