Divide by 1-Digit Numbers

The number being divided is called the dividend, the number by which it is being divided is called the divisor and the result of the division is called the quotient

A number remaining after division is called the remainder

To divide 444 ÷ 3, we place the first digit in the hundreds place

4 ÷ 3 = 1 R1. Bring down the 4 in the tens place

14 ÷ 3 = 4 R2. Bring the digit in the ones place down and divide

The partial quotients method takes several steps to find the quotient

Think of multiplication facts of the divisor and use them to estimate the partial quotient

Think how many of the divisors are there in the dividend

Repeat the question until the number we get after subtraction is smaller than the divisor
